Lifehacker has a post today outlining how to secure a hard drive before you sell it. This is incredibly important now-a-days since identity theft is on the rise. Arm yourself with knowledge. These steps should be followed anytime a hard drive is being:
- Sold
- Donated
- Given to family or friends
- Thrown away/Recycled
- Any time a hard drive permanently leaves your possession.
Notice that I’ve included the family and friends bullet. You can’t guarantee that your data will be gone when they finally dispose of the drive in their chosen fashion.
